- WHAT IS RETAIL PACKAGE
Package intended for retail sale to the ultimate consumer and that includes imported packages
REGULATION REGARDING RETAIL PACKAGES
RETAIL PACKAGES MUST BE PACKED IN STANDARD QUANTITIES
The provision for making "non-standard size" packages is no longer available.
Items listed under the Second Schedule will have to be packed in quantities specified in that schedule. The Schedule now offers wider options.
Items not included in the Second Schedule may be packed in any quantities or sizes.
It is permitted to pack value based packets of Re. 1.00 to Rs. 10.00 (whole rupee only) bypassing the Second Schedule. However, the net content will have to be declared
- STATUTORY DECLARATIONS ON THE PACKAGES
All packages meant for retail sale must bear the following declarations on the package itself or on a label securely fixed to the package. The declarations must also be in the prescribed manner.
- The name and address of the manufacturer, the name and address of both the manufacturer and the packer (when they are not same) or the name and address of the importer.
FORMAT:
Corporate Name. Full postal address of the factory.
- The common or generic name of the commodity.
FORMAT:
Common Salt or Sodium Chloride
- Net quantity contained in the package (excluding the weight of any packing material).
FORMAT:
Net content: 250g / 1.25m / 1N
- Month and year of manufacture or import.
FORMAT:
mm/yy [06.14][June 2014]
- The retail sale price.
FORMAT:
MRP: Rs. 5 000.00 (inclusive of all taxes)
- The name of the office, address, telephone no and e mail id (optional)

- WHERE TO PUT THE DECLARATIONS:
No individual sticker can be used to make the declarations. But, stickers may be used for giving other information not required under the Rules - for example: 25 gm free
All the declarations must be grouped together and given on the Principal Display Panel (the whole surface of the package) and at one place.
However, pre-printed information may be grouped together and given at one place and on-line information may be grouped together and given at another place.
- HOW TO PUT THE DECLARATIONS:
The declarations should be made in English or Hindi in Devnagri Script. Use of regional languages are optional only.
The declarations must be legible and prominent and in contrast color to the background.grouped together and given on the Principal Display Panel (the whole surface of the package) and at one place.
The letters of declarations must not not be less than 1 mm in height and the numerals should be as per Table I or II of Rule 7 with the space of 1 unit oh height on above and below and 2 units of height on the right and on the left, when declaring the net quantity.
